Renate Welsh was born in 1937 in Vienna. She is one of the leading children's authors writing in German today, and has received numerous prizes for her books, including the Austrian Youth Literature Prize and the German Youth Literature Prize. She is also a successful writer of books for adults, including Liebe Schwester, a story of old age, life and love, published by dtv last year.
