Jürg Schubiger was born in 1936 in Zurich, and is the prize-winning author of numerous children's books. In 1996 he was awarded the German Youth Literature Prize for Als die Welt noch jung war (Beltz Verlag, 1995). Most recently he produced two books that turn classic literary themes into contemporary children's stories. In Die Geschichte von Wilhelm Tell (Nagel & Kimche, 2003) he retells an old legend, explaining how William Tell came to shoot an apple off his son's head. His latest book, Die seltsamen Abenteuer des Don Quijote (Aufbau Verlag, 2003), brings to life the best-known episodes from Cervantes' novel.
