Walter Moers was born in 1957. He is an author, cartoonist, painter and scriptwriter. His cartoons of Das kleine Arschloch (The Little Asshole) were a runaway success, translated into English, French and Italian, and were made into a prize-winning film. His Hitler cartoons Adolf, first published in the satirical magazine Titanic in 1998, found an immediate audience, while stirring up controversy with right-wingers. His fantasy books are read by adults and children alike and have been translated into 14 languages.

In 1980 Vito von Eichborn founded a new publishing house with a list including international fiction, politics and humour. The humour list was an immediate success, making it possible to develop a strong and diverse fiction and non-fiction list.
