Alex Capus was born in France in 1961. He studied history and philosophy in Basle and now lives in Olten, Switzerland, where he works as a freelance writer.

Founded in 1956 by Wolfgang Schaffler, Residenz started originally with coffee table books, books on the arts, and non-fiction. Since the 1960s it has been publishing contemporary Austrian fiction, and in the 1980s the programme was extended to include international literature.
