Katharina Hacker

was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1967. She studied philosophy, history and Jewish studies in Freiburg and Jerusalem. She later worked in Israel for several years, and her translations from the Hebrew are published by Suhrkamp. She has lived and worked in Berlin since 1996.

Suhrkamp Verlag

was founded in 1950 by Peter Suhrkamp, who was joined in 1952 by Dr. Siegfried Unseld. The group now includes Insel Verlag (founded in 1902 in Leipzig), Deutscher Klassiker Verlag (established in 1981) and the Jüdischer Verlag (founded in 1902). Suhrkamp focuses on both contemporary literature and the humanities. Its distinguished list includes leading writers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria (many of whom made their debut with Suhrkamp), as well as major international authors including four Nobel Prize winners.
