Walter Moers

was born in 1957 and is a writer, cartoonist and painter. He has been publishing since 1984 and won the hearts of countless readers, particularly with his fantasy books which are read by adults and children alike. His fantasy novels like Die13½ Leben des Käpt’n Blaubär and Rumo were published to superb reviews and have been bestsellers in Germany. Walter Moers is the creator of characters like Captain Bluebear, the Little Asshole and the Hitler cartoon character Adolf. The idea for his latest novel came to him on an expedition to the second-hand bookshops on the East Coast of America.

Piper Verlag

was founded in 1904 by Reinhard Piper. Reinhard Piper published many leading contemporary authors, a tradition followed by his son and his grandson. After 1945 the programme expanded to include philosophy and non-fiction. Piper Verlag now includes the imprints Malik Verlag, Ernst Kabel Verlag and Piper Fantasy, and has been part of the Swedish group Bonnier since 1995. Authors include Ingeborg Bachmann, Gaby Hauptmann, Sten Nadolny, Gabriele Wohmann, Annette Pehnt, Jakob Hein, Walter Moers and Radek Knapp.
