Tilman Röhrig born in 1945 in the Rhineland Palatinate, is now based in Cologne. He trained as an actor and has trodden the boards of many German theatres. For the last decades, he has devoted most of his time to writing and is particularly well-known for his historical novels which are bestsellers. He has won various prizes for his work.

was founded by Reinhard Piper in 1904. The firm published many leading contemporary authors, a tradition followed by the founder’s son and grandson. After 1945 the programme expanded to include philosophy and non-fiction. Piper Verlag now includes the imprints Malik, Ernst Kabel and Piper Fantasy, and has been part of the Swedish group Bonniers since 1995.
