Arnold Stadler was born in 1954 and grew up in a small farming community. After leaving school he studied theology in Munich and Rome for five years before changing his field of study to German Literature. Both a poet and a novelist, he has received many prestigious prizes for his work. This year he has been awarded both the Georg Büchner Prize and the Alemannischer Literatur Prize.

was established in 1956 as a branch of DuMont Schauberg, itself founded in the early 17th century and still owned by the DuMont family. The DuMont company as a whole has a large list of art books, including monographs and exhibition catalogues, travel guides, books on gardening and cooking, design, lifestyle and interior design as well as crime fiction. DuMont Literatur was established in 1998, to publish fiction by international authors, both German and European.
