Once a publisher has acquired the translation rights to a work of literature by an Austrian writer, and a contract has been signed between the publisher and a translator, the publisher can apply to the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture for a translation grant. Applications for fiction and for children’s books are welcome, but please note that the Ministry cannot currently support the translation of non-fiction books.
Always mention that the title is a New Books in German title: fiction and children's books featured in our pages and bought by a UK or other English-language publisher are guaranteed a grant.The size of the grant will differ from case to case.
Applications should include:
- copies of the contracts between the publishing houses and with the translator
- information about the translator (CV and list of translated works)
- the translation or partial translation (where possible)
