Charlotte Ryland has been the editor of New Books in German since November 2009. She is based at the Goethe-Institut in London, as well as in Oxford, where she also lectures and tutors in German Literature at Oxford University. She writes on a range of German-language literature, with a focus on post-war and contemporary poetry and fiction, and edits student and parallel editions of German plays for Methuen Drama.
