Patrick Brosi brings a refreshing new style to the thriller market in this title, which also benefits from his in-depth technical knowledge. The Blogger is a light summer read with a chilly breeze, set in the fascinating landscape of the Black Forest.
When a tourist is reported missing at Lake Titisee, Superintendent Nagel and his colleagues discover a dead body in the lake. The body is that of René Berger, a famous blogger and whistle-blower, who has exposed illegal testing procedures practised by the Swiss pharmaceutical company, mediPlan. Berger had been hiding in the Black Forest region while preparing his next big blow against the pharmaceutical lobby, and has obviously been murdered.
Berger had been assisted in his investigations by two journalists from The Berlin Post, Marie Sommer and Simon Wenig, and the novel backtracks to fill in their part of the story. When Sommer discovers that Wenig is involved in a huge conspiracy to implicate mediPlan in crimes that have in fact been committed by their main competitor, she realises that her life is in danger. The conspiracy also implicates René Berger himself, but Sommer is unable to intervene in time to save him. When the whole truth eventually emerges, the thrilling final twist is utterly unpredictable!
